Bright Light City 2013.....
A massive thank you has to go out to everyone who donated both time and money for this fantastic cause/classic Car Run. It was the 2nd of hopefully many runs and what a cracker, with about £670 collected for Anthony Nolan and a great time had by all.
We started out as usual in a Pub Car Park........ and waited.......and waited.......until he arrived some 20 minutes late, by that I mean Guido the manic Maltese wedge from last years run, he started out as he meant to go on by entering the car park by the wrong entrance only to be faced by a blockade of industrial bins.
Did he re-enter the car park in a normal way.....No he proceeded to push the large bins out of the way using the nosecone/bumper of his wedge (don’t panic its a Fiat X19) so no harm done. It was then an enthusiastic drive along some more of the best northwest roads driving through the very picturesque Beacon Fell Country Park, the beautiful Trough Of Bowland and stopping off at The Wild Boar Park for lunch. It was there some of the cars got decorated with balloons and banners to help promote our chosen charity, some of us were in fancy dress with a bit of 70s theme giving out sticks of Blackpool Rock and balloons whilst shaking the rattle cans and collection bucket.
On leaving the Wild Boar Park Guido's car led the way with myself as a passenger and large collection of balloons attached to his pop up headlamps. Whilst driving rather spiritedly he popped up his headlamps with the balloons cascading into the sky, a sight I would have liked to see from behind with a camera.
Then it was back to the meeting point The Clifton Arms where my self Garry Yorke an Simon Bryan were were plucked of our dignity and hair from our chest by Kate Lamb Mens Waxing all in aid of Anthony Nolan, it only hurt a little bit. Whilst at the pub we grabbed a bite to eat and presented a couple of trophies one for best in show which was presented to TR Drives Club member Chris Reynolds & his wife for there fantastic gold TR7 V8 and the other which is the prestigious “Guido Cup” (which comes back each year) was given to our Simon Bryan for his determination not only to complete the run but get here in the first place. After been let down with his Triumph Stag (running repairs/breakdowns) and lending his TR7 to friend for a wedding car he then had to borrow a TR8 from Sheffield travelling, Northants- Sheffield-Blackpool then Blackpool-sheffield to Northants.
Then the grand finale a trip down The Golden Mile, Blackpool Illuminations was in full swing shinning the lights for our bright light city.
So this year why not come and join us up north, have a reet good laugh a good drive and help a very deserving cause. I'll even give yer a stick of Blackpool Rock.
Keep your eyes peeled for details coming soon..... Garry Yorke www.classiccarrunblackpool.co.uk
