Bright Light City's gonna set your mouth on fire
Wow what a Bright Light City..... Ok we didn't quite fill the forecourt at S&S & we didn't have masses of cars.
But what a day we had there were some fantastic Roads, Andy Stott & Alan & Angela Lane's cars sounded awesome blasting through the lanes..... Thanks to Steve Wilcox @ S&S Preparations for his support and hospitality. Mark Cox in his fantastic Cavalry Blue DHC met up with us at S&S as did Gavin & his son (sorry I forgot your name) who are enthusiastically restoring an R reg FHC Thanks for your support guy's.
Mark was leaving his car for some work at S&S so we drove with Andy who gave him a lift to Todmorden railway station, when after dropping him off we came across one of the most fantastic (must have been 5miles long) steep incline single track roads iv'e come across for years spectacular views twists and bends with a steep grass bank either side making the exhaust note of Andy's little motor and the enthusiastic way we were driving made you feel like you were in The Lombard Rally. Of course with every up there is a down twisty decline, steep banks, enthusiastic driving in a TR7 with standard brakes ….......Hmmm brake fade is something iv'e never experienced in my TR7 and something I don't want to again especially when I was only 2/3rds of the way down the hill. (a brake upgrade on the cards me thinks).
Shaun & the Chef at The Clarence Blackpool played an absolute blinda where the food was concerned, both for the rest of the party and for the Man Vs Food Chillie Challenge which they prepared for us all in aid for our chosen Charity.
Two Brain dead Guy's taking on 4 trays each of 4 chicken wings, each tray increasing the heat of chillie-ness:
Tray 1. both feeling rather confident with an extra splash of scotch bonnet sauce for good measure.
Tray 2. both feeling the heat neither wanting to show it, I could feel my chest walls tightening as I polished off the 4 chicken wings & wolfed down the garnish of jalapino's
Tray 3. I think I speak for both of us here (although speaking wasn't actually and option) as the inside of my mouth felt like it was about to implode and I could barely see the left over chicken bones on my plate out of my now streaming eyes.
Tray 4. WHY!!! was the question running through my mind.... as I looked across the table at my fellow chillie lunatic through my streaming eyes and now dripping nose. I found a new lease of life as thought about the homeless sleeping on the streets of Blackpool and how the money raised would help. I quickly sucked the chicken off the bones of four chicken wings that sat before me and through the umpteen slices of what looked like green finger chillies down my neck and relished in the fact I had completed The Man Vs Food Challenge.... my friend (who would put there friends through this) was still sat gazing at his chicken delight through his blood shot eyes wondering how he was going to do this, placing his hands on his face psyching himself up he devours not one but two of his four chicken wings, “Whilst I was shouting out whats the antidote” he rather quickly jumped up from the table nocking over his glass of lemonade rushing to the toilet.
**Game Over** no more chillies were eaten that evening
Two trophies were presented this year the The Guido Cup which returns back each year was presented to Andy Stott for his valliant effort no only to make it to the run and complete it in style with his raughty exhaust note but to do it all with a poorly gearbox now without a 5th gear. The next award went to Alan & Angela Lane for all the miles they covered just be with us to support the run and charity. Thanks a million it simply couldn't of been done with out you.
Then the grand finalie the cruise down The Golden Mile, with Andy, Alan & Angela in tow my self and Adrian (my chillie friend) up front in the DHC with roof down we did it to catch as wind in our mouth's to cool things down. It was a great way to end an epic day one which will always be remembered.
All this and we managed to raise over £280 for Street life a Homeless Charity in Blackpool which i'm sure they will be able to put to very good use. Thanks again to all concerned hopefully see you next year...............
